| Introduction |
Tuberculosis
is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium
Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis kills more adults in India than
any other infectious disease. More than 1000
people a day-1 every minute-die of T.B. in our
country.
India has a long history of research and
demonstration projects in TB. Unfortunately,
despite the existence of a National Tuberculosis
Programme since 1962, the desired results have
not been achieved.
In Hazaribag District RNTCP started on 27th Dec.
2002 covering a population 3067788.

| Objective
of the department |
1.
To achieve a high cure rate of new Sputum Smear
Positive patients,
2. The only effective meals by which 85% cure
rate has been shown to be achievable on a
programme basis is by application of so called
DOTS (Directly Observe Treatment Short Course Chemotherapy)
Strategy.

quality Sputum Microscopy in 24 Microscopy
centers.
IEC (Information, Education and Communication)
i.e. Wall writing in all PHCs, Hoarding in
important public places, Cinema Slides, Posters
showing symptoms of TB, Distribution of
pamphlets in villeges. Training to AnganBadi
workers, involvement of NGOs.
